I grew up in the northern part of Germany in the harbortown Bremen. I still have an affinity to the open sea.
After school I did extensive travelling through south east asia; the hospitality of the thai people will always be gratefully remembered.
After my return to Germany I attended two years of training to become a certified medical technician and worked for two years at the "Fachklinik fuer Innere Medizin" in Neutrauchburg.
At that time I was accepted into medical school at the Free University of Berlin; I did my practical year in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, and Psychosomatic Medicine.
During medical school I began my doctorate thesis. My work focused on the effects of bradykinin, a peptide with, among other properties, proinflammatory actions, on the nasal mucosa. (Nasal challenge studies with bradykinin: influence upon mediator generation. Clin Exp Allergy, 1991. 21(4): 425-431) Abstract
As a M.D. I began to work in the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Asthma Outpatient Dept. of the Free University of Berlin. A grant of the "Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft" allowed me to continue my research at the Division of Allergy of the State University of New York at Stony Brook for 3.5 years where I focused my work on the interaction of the contact activation system and glycosaminoglycans derived from mast cells and released during allergic reactions.
Back in Germany I continued this work with the help of a grant of the "Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft" in the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and Asthma Outpatient Dept. of the Humboldt-University in Berlin .
In addition to this research I continued my training in Internal Medicine in the Dept. of Medicine of the Humboldt-University. Publications
In 1995 I had the choice to either continue my university career or to enter a private practice in my beloved northern germany. Finally I followed my initial impulse that lead to medical school and took over a family practicioners office in Bad Zwischenahn, Germany.
Since October 1996 I help my patients tackle their diseases.
In 2006 I finished my training in Nutritional Medicine and in 2013 I achieved the qualification in Palliative Medicine
All these activities would not be possible without the continuing help of my beloved wife, Margarete Lottis-Brunnée who presently devotes her energy to keep the house going and spends considerable more time than me in raising our kids, Lina (born 1991 in Stony Brook) and Yannik (born 1994 in Berlin).
The kids are getting more independant, so Margarete finds some time to persue her dream of developing patterns of custom-fit fashion and historical costumes. Developments can be seen under www.zwischenmass.de.
I am an avid biker and enjoy nature whenever I can. Since early childhood I like fischtanks and have one at home and in my office.
Since 1997 I am a member of Rotary Club Westerstede, District 1850 (Past president, past secretary, past webmaster).
I am founding member and current member of the executive board of PleXxon, an association of over 70 local physicians to survive the increasingly bureocratic health system in Germany.
Since 2017 I am board member of the "Ärztegenossenschaft Niedersachsen-Bremen", a registered cooperative of more than 500 physicains in the northern part of Germany.
